Dr. Spencer Smith

Biography

Spencer B. Smith holds a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) and a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and has completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. His research primarily focuses on the neural processes involved in speech perception, particularly in noisy environments, and the functions of the inner ear cortex. Dr. Smith employs a combination of objective techniques, such as otoacoustic emissions and electroencephalography, along with behavioral methods to explore the relationships between neurophysiological function and auditory perception. Throughout his academic career, he has secured funding from prestigious institutions like the National Institutes of Health and foundations dedicated to hearing research.
