Biography

Spyridon Pougkakiotis is a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at King's College London. His research focuses on aspects of continuous optimisation with applications in operational research and engineering data science. He is particularly interested in developing robust and efficient algorithms for large-scale deterministic and stochastic optimisation, as well as risk-aware decision-making. Spyridon completed his BSc in Informatics and Telecommunications at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2016, followed by an MSc in Operational Research and Computational Optimisation at the University of Edinburgh in 2017. He obtained his PhD in Optimisation in 2022 and subsequently joined Yale University as a postdoctoral research associate, where he contributed to advanced optimisation research. As an educator, Spyridon currently teaches a third-year undergraduate course on Numerical Computational Methods in Python and an MSc module on Machine Learning. He has received several scholarships and awards, including the 2022 Society Doctoral Award for 'Most Distinguished Body of Research' in Operational Research and was a finalist for the 2024 Euro Doctoral Dissertation Award. His teaching and research contribute significantly to the thriving Financial Mathematics group known for its excellence in research.
