Biography

Professor Spyros Kinnas holds a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Diploma in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Prior to his tenure at the University of Texas at Austin, he served as a principal research engineer and lecturer in the Department of Ocean Engineering at MIT. Kinnas specializes in computational hydrodynamics and its applications to the design of high-speed propulsors and control surfaces of ships, as well as in the design of ocean current turbines. He is a member of various scientific committees for international symposia on Cavitation and Marine Propulsors and is recognized as a Fellow by SNAME. He also serves on the editorial boards of multiple journals including the Journal of Ship Research and the International Journal of Ocean Systems Engineering. Kinnas has received several awards for his teaching excellence and innovative instructional technologies throughout his career.
