Biography

Srinjoy Mitra received his B.S. degree in Physics and Electronics from Calcutta, India, and an M.Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Institute of Neuroinformatics at ETH Zurich in 2004. Between 2008 and 2010, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, before joining the medical electronics team at IMEC in Belgium as a senior scientist in early 2016. He has been instrumental in leading several industrial and publicly-funded projects related to bio-potential recording and has successfully developed integrated circuits for electro-encephalography (EEG) that were validated in clinical environments. Prof. Mitra has also led multiple projects involving neural implants for both central and peripheral nervous systems, resulting in the development of generations of CMOS neural recording probes with the highest electrode density. He returned to academia as a Lecturer in the Biomedical Engineering Division at the University of Glasgow. In 2017, he moved to the Integrated Micro Nano Systems at the University of Edinburgh, where he is the Program Director for the MSc in Sensors and Imaging Systems and a founding member of the Edinburgh Neuroprosthetics Lab. He is deeply engaged in the study of technological innovation and its global implications, as well as pedagogical practices in engineering education.
