Dr. Stacey Mcdowell

Biography

Stacey McDowell is an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick. Her expertise lies in the teaching of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature, with a focus on poetry, literature and philosophy, reading studies, sexuality, and gender. McDowell has a keen interest in pedagogy and mentorship, particularly within literary education, and has experience teaching literature in various settings, including schools and prisons. She is the author of the forthcoming book 'Reading Sympathy in Romantic Literature' (Cambridge University Press, 2026), which examines the representations of people reading Romantic texts and the intimate connections formed through shared literary experiences. McDowell is currently preparing a new scholarly edition of the Complete Poems of John Keats for the Longman Annotated English Poets series. Her selected publications include several essays and book chapters that contribute to the fields of Romantic studies and literary acoustics.
