Biography

Stan Settles is a Professor Emeritus in the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California. He earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University in 1969 and has dedicated over 30 years to the field, including a tenure at Allied Signal Aerospace Company. He has served in various capacities including past president of the Institute of Industrial Engineering and as a Fellow of IIE, INFORMS, and INCOSE. His research interests are focused on engineering management, integrated management design, quality management, and manufacturing applications in biomedical and biotechnical fields. He is also active in the motorsports engineering community, emphasizing systems architecting for vehicle landspeed racing. Settles has received several distinguished awards, notably the Institute of Industrial Engineers Frank & Lillian Gilbreth Award in 2009 and was elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 1991.
