Biography

Stanislav Smirnov is a distinguished mathematician, renowned for his foundational contributions to the mathematical physics field. He graduated with a degree in mathematics from St. Petersburg State University in 1992 and later received his PhD in mathematics from California Institute of Technology in Pasadena in 1996. Following his doctoral studies, he worked at prestigious institutions such as Yale University, the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn. In 2003, he became a professor of mathematics at the University of Geneva. He was awarded the Fields Medal in 2010 for his proof of conformal invariance in the context of percolation and the planar Ising model in statistical physics. In 2014, he was appointed as the Director of the National Centre of Competence in Research SwissMAP, which is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. Stanislav Smirnov is actively engaged in research and mentoring students through his research group.
