Dr. Stanley Serafin

Biography

Stanley Serafin is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of New South Wales. He holds a BSc in Biomedical Engineering and a PhD in Biological Anthropology. His research interest lies in integrating osteological, archaeological, and biogeochemical data, focusing on mortuary practices and body modification. Specifically, he examines diet and health data from skeletal remains found at Maya archaeological sites in the Yucatan, Tabasco, and Chiapas regions of Mexico. His multidisciplinary work often involves collaboration with local communities and specialists from various fields. In teaching, he emphasizes a scientific approach to anatomy, encouraging critical evaluation of evidence and hands-on learning through the use of fossil casts and digital resources. He teaches various courses, including Biological Anthropology and Functional Anatomy.,
