Stavroula Pantazopoulou is a Professor at York University's Lassonde School of Engineering, specializing in Structural Mechanics and Earthquake Engineering with a particular emphasis on Performance-Based Engineering. Her research focuses on Seismic Design, Assessment, and Retrofit of Reinforced Concrete Structures using emerging materials and technologies. She is conducting research on the development of strain-resilient cementitious materials and corrosion-resistant durable retrofits, and exploring novel structural designs to reduce the required amounts of confining shear reinforcement without compromising ductility. Her work also involves utilizing nanomaterials in construction and the exploitation of industrial waste in concrete to enhance the understanding of the relationship between mechanical properties and overall performance, employing advanced numerical simulations from microstructural to macroscopic levels. Pantazopoulou completed her Master's, Doctoral, and Post-Doctoral studies in Civil Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley, and holds an Engineering Diploma from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Before her current role at York University, she held positions as a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, and as Professor and Department Head of Civil Engineering at the University of Cyprus. Throughout her academic career, she has supervised Doctoral students and has been involved in international committees related to technical guidelines for concrete and masonry structures, as well as new construction materials. She was elected a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute in 2004 and received the ASCE’s Moisseiff Award for notable contributions to the science and art of civil engineering.
