Stefan Lessmann is a lector in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at Yale University. He completed his Ph.D. in Yale’s Department of Comparative Literature with a dissertation focusing on sexuality and the form of the novel in twentieth-century German and Hispanophone literature. He has earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Philosophy and Comparative Literature from the University of Vienna, Austria. In summer 2024, he will serve as an academic guest with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in a research group titled 'Philology Adventure' at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. In 2023, he received the 'German Exile Studies Research Grant' from the University of Southern California for his research related to the Feuchtwanger Memorial Library. His teaching and research interests encompass theories of fiction, the history of sexuality, literature and artificial intelligence, Austrian and German literature, intellectual history across North and South America, memory culture in German language classrooms, and intercultural competence.
