Stefan G. Llewellyn Smith received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 1996. He was a research fellow at Queens' College, Cambridge from 1996 to 1999, working in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. In the academic year of 1996-1997, he held the Lindemann Trust Fellowship at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla. Throughout his career, he has tackled various complex problems in fluid dynamics, such as geophysical fluid dynamics, vortex dynamics, and fluid-structure interaction, addressing topics ranging from ocean turbulence to vortex shedding and acoustic scattering.
