Professor Maier holds the Lee-Lucas Chair in Experimental Physics at Imperial College London. He has served as the Head of the Experimental Solid State Physics Group from 2016 to 2018 and as the Director of Postgraduate Studies from 2014 to 2018 within the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
