Dr. Stefan Markowski

Biography

Stefan Markowski is an Associate Professor at the School of Business, UNSW Canberra. He studied mathematical economics at the University of Warsaw, where he completed his Master's thesis on transport economics in 1966. Following his graduation, he moved to London to take a lectureship in economics at the London School of Economics (LSE), ultimately earning his doctorate in economics in 1974. In 1975, he joined the Centre for Environmental Studies in London as a Senior Scientific Officer, specializing in urban land economics. His career continued at South Bank Polytechnic (now a university) as a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of the Built Environment. Markowski has been involved with Roger Tym Partners, a firm specializing in land and urban economics, and has taken on roles as an academic researcher and professional consultant. He has taught various subjects, including strategic procurement and logistics engineering. His current research focuses on private military companies, defense procurement, labor mobility, and migration, with ongoing collaboration with a research team at the University of Warsaw. He is also an adjunct associate professor at the Australian National University's Centre for European Studies in Canberra.
