Stefan Werning is an Associate Professor of Digital Media and Game Studies at Utrecht University, where he co-coordinates the focus area of Game Research and organizes the annual summer school for Multidisciplinary Game Research. He founded and leads the Utrecht Game Lab, a small research group dedicated to exploring the Analytical Game Design research method and developing prototypes in collaboration with external partners such as the Liszt Museum in Bayreuth and Beeld en Geluid in Hilversum. Stefan was also a visiting scholar at MIT in 2005 and a fellow from 2006 to 2010 in the Comparative Media Studies program. He has experience working in the digital games industry, having completed his PhD research while employed at Codemasters in 2005 and Nintendo Europe from 2007 to 2009. His latest book, 'Making Games: Poetics Politics Game Creation Tools', was published in 2021 as part of the Playful Thinking Series by MIT Press.
