Biography

Stefan Winter is a professor of Timber Construction and Structural Design at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He holds a degree in civil engineering from TUM and earned his doctorate in composite steel concrete structures in 1997, focusing on the behavior of high-tensile steel column profiles under normal and fire conditions. Following his appointment as a professor in steel and timber construction at the University of Leipzig in 2000, he joined TUM in 2003 as a full professor. Winter's research interests encompass timber construction including fire safety in timber buildings, multi-story timber structures, and energy-efficient timber design. He has contributed significantly to the field through his involvement in developing guidelines for fire safety in timber buildings and his work on prefabricated components and life cycle analysis of timber structures. Notably, he was part of the Finnish Distinguished Professorship program at Aalto University in Helsinki from 2009 to 2012, further enhancing his academic profile and research collaborations.
