Biography

Stefania Nicoli, PhD, is an Associate Professor at Yale School of Medicine with joint appointments in the Departments of Internal Medicine (Cardiovascular Medicine) and Genetics. She serves as the Director of the Zebrafish Phenotyping Core and Co-Director of the Yale Cardiovascular Research Center. Dr. Nicoli completed her Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the University of Milan in 2002 and earned her PhD in Biomedical Biotechnology from the University of Brescia in 2007. She pursued postdoctoral training at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where she focused on microRNAs and vascular development. Since joining Yale in 2012, her research has concentrated on the functions of microRNAs in cell biology and development, utilizing zebrafish models to explore the regulation of gene expression and the implications for diseases such as cancer, atherosclerosis, and stroke. Dr. Nicoli has received several prestigious awards, including the Springer Junior Investigator Award from the North American Vascular Biology Organization and the Judah Folkman Award in 2022 for her contributions to the field.
