Biography

Stefania Nicoli is an Associate Professor at Yale University, with joint appointments in the Department of Internal Medicine (Cardiovascular Medicine) and the Department of Genetics. She serves as the Director of the Zebrafish Phenotyping Core and Co-Director of the Yale Cardiovascular Research Center. After completing her postdoctoral training at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 2011, focusing on microRNAs in vascular development, she joined Yale School of Medicine in 2012. Her lab employs zebrafish models to investigate the regulation of gene expression by non-coding RNAs and their influence on blood vessel formation and function, with implications for understanding diseases such as cancer and atherosclerosis. Dr. Nicoli has received several awards for her research, including the 2016 Springer Junior Investigator Award from the North American Vascular Biology Organization and the 2022 Judah Folkman Award for her outstanding contributions to vascular biology research. She is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of scientists and promoting equity in research.
