Biography

Stefano Galelli is a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University, where he leads the Critical Infrastructure Systems Lab. His career has spanned Europe, Asia, and North America. Galelli graduated from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, earning a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering in 2004 and 2007, respectively, followed by a Ph.D. in Information Communication Technology in 2011. He established his career overseas in Singapore, where he worked as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore from 2011 to 2013 and later as a faculty member at the Singapore University of Technology and Design from 2013 to 2023. His research interests focus on the interactions between critical infrastructure systems and the natural environment. He is particularly interested in characterizing hydro-climatic variability within interconnected water-energy infrastructures and providing adaptive, robust management solutions that balance reliability, resilience, and sustainability. To achieve these goals, his lab combines elements of process-based modeling, climatology, statistical learning, control theory, and optimization. Galelli has taught foundational courses as well as advanced courses in data analytics and optimization, including topics on water-energy management. He remains actively involved in editorial roles in several prestigious journals and is recognized for his service contributions and research excellence within the academic community.
