Biography

Stefano Stifani is a Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University. His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms regulating neural stem/progenitor cell (NSPC) self-renewal, proliferation, and differentiation in the developing postnatal brain, particularly the cerebral cortex. Additionally, he characterizes the molecular mechanisms underlying the growth and propagation of glioblastoma, a malignant form of brain cancer. His work also aims to elucidate the molecular events controlling the development of neural circuit integration in diverse subtypes of motor nerve cells (motor neurons), with a particular interest in the cells vulnerable to degeneration in motor neuron diseases, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
