Biography

Originally trained as a physicist, Steffen Bayer gained his doctorate in Science and Technology Policy from the University of Sussex. He joined the Southampton Business School after serving as an Assistant Professor of Program Health Services & Systems Research at Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore and as a research fellow at Imperial College London and the University of Sussex. His main research focus is on planning health services, with past projects involving studies on stroke care, renal care, and human resource planning for home-based technology-supported health delivery. Steffen employs a variety of research approaches including qualitative research, system dynamics, agent-based modelling, and discrete event simulation. He is also a member of the editorial board for Operations Research Health Care and BMC Health Services Research and has served as the past president of the UK Chapter of the International Systems Dynamics Society.
