Biography

Prof. Steffen Glaser conducts research focused on the development of novel theories and methods in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments. His research emphasizes optimal control of spin systems and their applications in structural biology, medical imaging, and quantum information processing. He studied physics in Heidelberg and completed his doctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, earning his doctorate from the University of Heidelberg in 1987. Following this, he undertook a research stay at the University of Washington in Seattle and completed his post-doctoral teaching qualification at the University of Frankfurt/Main in 1993. Appointed to his professorship at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 1999, he also served as the speaker for international doctoral programs in the Elite Network of Bavaria, including the Quantum Computing, Communication, Control program and the Exploring Quantum Matter program. His research collaborations extend to several prestigious institutions, including the LMU Munich and the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field, including the Innovation Award for the Advancement of Medical Technology and the Prize for Excellence in Teaching from the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and Arts.
