Biography

Steffen Hagemann is a Professor of Economic Geology and the Director of the Centre for Exploration Targeting at the University of Western Australia. With over 33 years of experience in economic geology, he specializes in structural geology, hydrothermal alteration, and fluid chemistry, particularly within gold, iron, and copper deposits. Steffen focuses on integrating detailed field observations with advanced geochemical techniques to unravel the metallogeny and the evolutionary history of mineral systems, with a strong emphasis on the 4-D control of orebodies. His current research projects include investigations in the Yilgarn Craton in Western Australia and several projects in South America, specifically in the eastern Andes of Peru and northwestern Argentina, as well as Precambrian shields in Brazil and Guyana. He has supervised and co-supervised a total of 16 postdoctoral fellows and 91 PhD and MSc theses. Additionally, he serves as an Associate Editor for Mineralium Deposita and the Brazilian Journal of Geology, and has extensive roles in managing fluid inclusions and gem stones research.
