Dr. Steffen Sammet

Biography

Steffen Sammet, MD, PhD, is a Professor at the University of Chicago in the Department of Radiology. He holds the position of Director of Clinical Magnetic Resonance Physics and Associate Program Director for the Clinical Imaging Medical Physics Residency Program. With a strong academic background, he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, where he completed his physics degree with magna cum laude honors and later obtained his medical degree also with magna cum laude recognition. His research interests primarily include the development of new methodologies for high and ultra-high field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). He has been involved as a principal investigator in various ultrasound research projects and is dedicated to advancing MRI techniques for improved diagnosis and treatment monitoring. Moreover, he is recognized for his contributions to translational research in medical physics, focusing on novel MRI techniques, and has received multiple awards for his teaching excellence and research accomplishments. Dr. Sammet is also engaged in mentoring graduate students in research at the University of Chicago and actively participates in educational programs related to neuroradiological imaging in Nigeria.
