Biography

Dr. Stella T. Chou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She specializes in Pediatric Hematology and Transfusion Medicine with a focus on regenerative blood cellular therapy and hematologic diseases. Her research laboratory investigates the mechanisms underlying normal human hematopoietic development and the disruption of these processes in hematologic diseases such as leukemia and sickle cell disease. Dr. Chou's work involves using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to model blood diseases and creating customized iPSCs that carry rare blood group antigen combinations. Her translational research integrates molecular technologies with clinical transfusion medicine practice, developing novel tools to enhance red cell therapy. This includes studies on genetic modifiers in pediatric hematologic disorders and the implications of Rh alloimmunization in transfusion.
