Biography

Stella Yu received her doctorate from the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, where she focused on robotics and vision science at the Robotics Institute and Center for Neural Basis of Cognition. After completing her Ph.D., Dr. Yu continued her research in computer vision as a postdoctoral fellow at UC Berkeley, where she specialized in art and vision. She has held significant academic positions, including as the Clare Booth Luce Professor at Boston College. During her career, she was recognized with an NSF CAREER award for her contributions to the field. Dr. Yu serves as the Director of the ICSI Vision Group and is a Senior Fellow at BIDS. Her research group studies visual perception from multiple perspectives, including human vision, computer vision, robotic vision, and artistic vision.
