Biography

Stephan Bless holds a doctorate in Earth and Planetary Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Research Professor at NYU Tandon School of Engineering and has published extensively in the fields of shock wave physics, dynamic behavior of materials, and impact engineering. He has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Physical Society, specifically for his contributions to the Shock Compression of Condensed Matter Topical Group. In addition, he is a member of the International Ballistics Society. Since joining NYU in 2012, he has been the Chief of the Hypervelocity Impact Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin. Bless has authored and edited several books, including a recent work titled 'Rapid Penetration of Granular Materials,' published by Elsevier in 2015, co-authored with M. Iskander and M. Omidvar.
