Biography

Stephan Pauleit is a professor and researcher specializing in strategy management and landscape development at the Technical University of Munich. His work focuses on sustainable development and urban planning, particularly in relation to natural rural landscapes and urban environments. He investigates how planning practices can meet future challenges such as globalization, food security, energy supply issues, urbanization, and climate change adaptation. His recent research emphasizes urban ecology and land use planning to help cities adapt to climate change. Pauleit has an extensive academic career, having originally studied landscape planning and landscape architecture. He completed his doctorate at the Technical University of Munich, earning a chair in Landscape Ecology in 1989. Before returning to TUM in 2009, he held positions at the University of Manchester and the University of Copenhagen. Additionally, he serves as an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Manchester and is the Chairman of the landscape ecology society, Freunde der Landschaftsökologie Weihenstephan e.V.
