Stéphane Marchand-Maillet obtained his PhD in Applied Mathematics from Imperial College in London, UK, in 1997. He joined the Department of Computer Science at the University of Geneva in 1999, specializing in Multimedia Information Retrieval. He became a MER in 2003 and an Associate Professor in 2011. His research group, Viper, specializes in large-scale, high-dimensional distributed machine learning, information retrieval, mining, indexing, and applications in data modeling and prediction, as well as social network analysis. Marchand-Maillet has authored and co-authored numerous publications on these topics and is involved in several national and European international projects within this domain. He served as a Senior Program Committee Member for the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI), one of the oldest and most established conferences in AI. In 2010, he was the General Co-Chair for the International Conference ACM-SIG Information Retrieval (ACM-SIGIR 2010) and served as Program Co-Chair for the 11th International Conference on Similarity Search and Applications (SISAP 2018).
