Dr. Stephanie Bertels

Biography

Stephanie Bertels is a professor at the Beedie School of Business, Simon Fraser University, and the Business Society Area Coordinator. She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Calgary and has a Master's from Stanford University. Her research focuses on the integration of sustainability into organizational practices and cultural change within businesses, emphasizing the role of internal change agents. Bertels has collaborated with various global firms to enhance sustainability performance through her unique public-benefit research initiative, the Embedding Project. She has published in leading journals such as Organization Science, Journal of Management, and Academy of Management Perspectives, contributing to a better understanding of how companies can better align their operations with environmental and social systems. With extensive experience as a thought partner to executive teams, she facilitates organizations in embedding sustainability in their strategies and governance.
