Dr. Stephanie Carlisle

Biography

Stephanie Carlisle is a lecturer in Urban Ecology at the University of Pennsylvania's Stuart Weitzman School of Design, where she has been a faculty member since 2014. She is also a lecturer in Building Technology within the Department of Architecture. Her research interests bridge architecture and ecology, focusing on the interaction between the constructed and natural environments, life cycle assessment (LCA), urban ecology, environmental justice, and climate policy. Previously, she served as Principal Environmental Researcher at KieranTimberlake Architects in Philadelphia, where she contributed significantly to the research on embodied carbon and environmental impacts related to building design. She played a key role in the development of Tally, a software tool that facilitates full-building life cycle assessments. Stephanie is committed to educating future designers on sustainability through her courses, and her work has been published in various books and academic journals. She is actively involved in climate action initiatives, serving on the Steering Committee of the US Architects Declare group, which advocates for transformative changes in architectural practice to address climate change and social justice.
