Dr. Stephanie Chao

Biography

Dr. Stephanie D. Chao is an Associate Professor in Pediatric Surgery at Stanford University. Her clinical focus includes Pediatric Trauma, Chest Wall Deformities, and Minimal Access Surgery, among other areas. She is the Trauma Medical Director at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and the Program Director for the Chest Wall Program at Stanford Children's Health. Dr. Chao's research interests encompass the prevention of childhood injury, particularly related to traumatic impact surgery and the long-term consequences of child abuse. She has been actively involved in initiatives aimed at improving public awareness of hepatitis B through the Jade Ribbon Campaign, targeting its eradication due to its association with liver cancer. Her work has received recognition from various organizations, and she has served on numerous committees and boards relating to surgical education and pediatric health. Dr. Chao also utilizes innovative approaches in her practice, including the integration of virtual reality in managing surgical anxiety for pediatric patients.
