Biography

Professor Stephanie E. Combs is a leading expert in the field of radiation oncology and radiation therapy. Her key expertise includes highly conformal radiation therapy, particularly stereotactic treatment, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), adaptive radiation therapy (ART), and the use of protons and carbon ions in treatment. Her scientific work encompasses treatment optimization for brain and skull base tumors, the use of biomarkers in radiation oncology, and areas such as pediatric oncology, gastrointestinal oncology, uro-oncology, gynecological oncology, and radiochemotherapy and radioimmunotherapy. Combs studied medicine in Heidelberg, Germany, and in Norfolk and San Antonio, USA, graduating in 2003. She worked as a research associate in Heidelberg and achieved her postdoctoral lecturing qualification in 2009. In 2011, she became the vice chair of the radiation oncology department at Heidelberg before being appointed to her professorship at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2014. She took charge of the institute of radiation medicine at the Helmholtz Zentrum in 2015 and was elected Dean of the TUM Faculty of Medicine in October 2022.
