Biography

Stephanie Garbern is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She completed her residency training in emergency medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and went on to earn a fellowship in Global Emergency Medicine. Garbern holds a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard School of Public Health and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she attended the East African course. Her research focuses on leveraging technology, such as mobile health tools and wearable devices, to improve emergency critical care for patients, particularly in relation to sepsis, infectious diseases, and conditions like COVID-19 and Ebola. She has worked on clinical research projects in various countries including Bangladesh, Liberia, Lebanon, China, Rwanda, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Ghana, and Tanzania. In addition, Garbern has served as a volunteer emergency response physician consultant for the International Medical Corps.
