Dr. Stephanie Halene

Biography

Dr. Stephanie Halene is a physician-scientist specializing in Medical Oncology and Hematology. She received her MD degree from Eberhardt-Karls-University in Tübingen, Germany, and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the laboratory of Donald B. Kohn at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. After her residency in internal medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital, she joined the faculty at Yale School of Medicine in 2010 as an assistant professor, later promoted to associate professor in 2016. Her research focuses on hematopoiesis and myelopoiesis, particularly how mutations in splicing factors contribute to hematologic malignancies like myelodysplastic syndromes and leukemia. Dr. Halene's innovative research includes developing an efficient xenotransplantation model using humanized mice to study these diseases and test novel drug treatments. She serves as the director of the DeLuca Center for Innovation in Hematology Research at Yale Cancer Center, which has established a comprehensive biospecimen bank aimed at advancing research in hematologic disorders. Dr. Halene's work has gained significant attention, evidenced by her numerous publications in top-tier journals and invited talks at international conferences. She is actively involved in the academic community, serving on advisory boards and receiving several awards for her contributions to the field of hematology.
