Biography

Stephanie Hoang is a Genetic Counsellor and Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of Alberta. She has a Bachelor of Science in Honors Molecular Biology and Genetics obtained in 2008 and a Master of Science in Genetic Counselling from the University of British Columbia completed in 2010. With over eight years of experience in ocular genetics, she currently works as a laboratory genetic counsellor with a focus on molecular genetics, cytogenetics, biochemical genetics, prenatal and newborn screening. Her primary research interests are in the areas of cost utilization of genetic testing and effective communication of newborn screening results. She received the 2020 CAGC Research Grant for her work on glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency screening and has contributed to various significant publications in topics related to genetic screening and therapy, including contributions to journals such as the International Journal of Neonatal Screening and the Journal of Community Genetics.
