Dr. Stephanie Holmsten

Biography

Stephanie Holmsten is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin with a joint appointment in the Government Department and International Relations and Global Studies (IRG) program. She is also the Associate Director of the IRG program and co-director of the Brumley Generation Scholars program. Her teaching expertise includes courses in global studies, international organizations, and gender ethnicity. Holmsten is actively involved in the Provost Teaching Fellows steering committee and was recognized as an inaugural participant in the Aspiring Leaders Academy. She has earned multiple teaching awards, including the Texas Blazers pillar award and the Orange Jacket tenet award. Her research primarily focuses on elections, women, ethnic minorities, and minoritized women globally. Notable publications include works on the representation of minoritized women and the role of ethnic parties in political systems. Recent articles have appeared in the Journal of Women, Politics, & Policy and the Journal of Political Science Education, highlighting her research contributions and innovative teaching methods, particularly in the context of team-based learning strategies.
