Biography

Stephanie Holmsten is an Associate Professor of Instruction at the University of Texas at Austin, with a joint appointment in the Government Department and the International Relations and Global Studies (IRG) program. She serves as the Associate Director of the IRG program and co-directs the Brumley Generation Scholars program. Dr. Holmsten teaches courses focusing on global studies, international organizations, and gender and ethnicity. As a leader in faculty development, she directs a learning community centered on Global Virtual Exchange and has led study abroad programs in Santiago, Chile, and Paris, France. She is a member of the Provost Teaching Fellows steering committee and was a selected participant in the inaugural Aspiring Leaders Academy. Her teaching and scholarship have received multiple accolades, including the Texas Blazers Pillar Award and the Orange Jacket Tenet Award. Her research primarily addresses the participation of women, ethnic minorities, and minoritized women in elections. Recent publications include her work in the Journal of Women, Politics & Policy and the Journal of Political Science Education, highlighting her contributions to understanding representation in electoral systems.
