Biography

Stephanie Masta is a Professor in the Department of Curriculum Studies at Purdue University, with affiliate appointments in American Studies and the School of Engineering Education. A member of the Sault Ste. Marie tribe of Chippewa Indians, her research focuses on the experiences of Brown and Black individuals in K-20 educational environments, with a particular interest in Indigenous peoples’ relationships within academic spaces. Dr. Masta's work is dedicated to uncovering the intersections of colonialism and race in the academy and employs narrative-based research, utilizing Indigenous methodologies along with critical race and decolonial theories. She has received external funding from the National Science Foundation and the Spencer Foundation and has published in prominent journals including Anthropology & Education Quarterly and the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education. Dr. Masta was awarded the College of Education Graduate Faculty Mentoring Award in 2022.
