Biography

Professor Robert’s research focuses on how socioeconomic aspects of people’s lives affect health and well-being over the life course. Her publications examine how neighborhood context influences health and contributes to socioeconomic and racial health disparities. She has a particular interest in social policy and health policy, specifically the ways in which they can improve health and reduce disparities better than health care policy alone. Professor Robert's current projects are investigating the socioeconomic and racial determinants of older adults’ transitions between community residences, encompassing a variety of living environments such as nursing homes and assisted living. Her aims include informing policies that assist older adults in choosing suitable living situations, especially for those facing health and cognitive challenges, ensuring that low-income older adults and older adults of color encounter fewer barriers to high-quality options. Additionally, Professor Robert is dedicated to enhancing mentoring competencies among faculty members, conducting training sessions across the country to help social science interdisciplinary faculty improve their mentoring skills. She also organizes training programs to assist doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in developing their mentoring capabilities as they transition into mentorship roles themselves.
