Biography

Stephanie Willerth is a Full Professor in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Victoria, where she holds a Canada Research Chair in Biomedical Engineering. She has dual appointments in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Division of Medical Sciences at the University of Victoria, as well as in the School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Willerth has founded a start-up company, Axolotl Biosciences, which specializes in selling high-quality bioinks for bioprinting human tissue models. Her leadership includes serving as the Acting Director of the Centre for Biomedical Research in the Biomedical Engineering undergraduate program at the University of Victoria from 2018 to 2021 and as the President of the Canadian Biomaterials Society from 2018 to 2019. She has been recognized by being elected into the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars and Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, and she has received the Teaching Award of Excellence in 2021.
