Dr. Stephen Azzi

Biography

Stephen Azzi is a Professor at Carleton University, specializing in Political Management. With a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo, Azzi has extensive experience, having previously served as an aide to four members of Parliament and as a speechwriter and policy analyst with the Department of National Defence. His expertise includes analyzing Canada’s international policy and understanding Islamist terrorism in Asia. Prior to his current role, he was an associate professor at Laurentian University, where he taught history and foreign policy. At Carleton, he is involved with the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, the School of Canadian Studies, the Department of History, and the Department of Political Science. He is also a member of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada and a senior fellow at the Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History at the University of Toronto. His research interests encompass prime ministerial leadership in Canada, Canada–US relations, and Canadian economic and cultural nationalism. He is actively looking to supervise graduate students in history, with specific areas open for inquiry.
