Biography

Stephen Baranyi is a Full Professor in the School of International Development and Global Studies at the University of Ottawa. His research focuses on critical institutional intersectional analyses, peacebuilding, justice, security reform, development cooperation, gender equality, and issues affecting persons with disabilities, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected states such as Haiti. Since joining the University of Ottawa in 2008, Baranyi has published extensively on topics related to peacebuilding and Canadian policy in fragile conflict-affected contexts. Before his academic tenure, he worked as a practitioner in governmental and non-governmental research institutions across Canada, Central America, the Caribbean, and Europe. He actively supervises graduate students and conducts fieldwork, particularly in Haiti, contributing to a deeper understanding of development and security challenges in these regions.
