Professor Dr. Stephen Beaudoin

Biography

Stephen Beaudoin is a Professor in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University, where he has served since 2003. He directs the Purdue Energetics Research Center and conducts research focused on adhesion and cohesion in systems involving energetic materials and explosives. His work aims to improve methods for detecting explosives residues in various environments, including those related to homeland security. Beaudoin's research encompasses the study of surface energy, adhesion forces, and the behaviors of explosive materials, with significant implications for safety and effectiveness in detection techniques. In addition, he investigates the adsorption of polymers on crystalline drug surfaces, relating polymer behavior to the kinetics of crystal growth and dissolution vital in pharmaceutical development. He has also developed advanced centrifuge-based techniques for powder characterization, enhancing understanding of particle adhesion properties. Beaudoin has received several accolades for his teaching and mentoring, including the NSF CAREER Award and recognition as a University Faculty Scholar. He continues to guide graduate students in exploring innovative approaches in chemical engineering research.
