Biography

Stephen Bottomley is an Emeritus Professor and former Dean of the ANU College of Law at the Australian National University. He joined the Law School in 1988. His primary research interest is in corporate governance, which encompasses areas such as government business enterprises, law regulation, and the legislative process. He has taught both postgraduate and undergraduate courses in corporate takeovers law and corporate governance. His significant publications include "Responsible Shareholder" (2021, Edward Elgar) and "Constitutional Corporation: Rethinking Corporate Governance" (2007, Ashgate Publishing), the latter of which was awarded the 2008 Hart Socio-Legal Book Prize by the UK Socio-Legal Association for outstanding socio-legal scholarship. Alongside Simon Bronitt, Bottomley co-authored "Law Context" (Federation Press, 2024, 5th ed.), and he is also involved in publishing works such as "Contemporary Australian Corporate Law" (Cambridge University Press, 3rd edition forthcoming). He is a fellow of the Australian Academy of Law and presents the "Law Context" podcast.
