Dr. Stephen Bradforth

Biography

Stephen Bradforth earned his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1992 and subsequently completed postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago. He began his independent career at the University of Southern California (USC) in 1996 within the Department of Chemistry and has progressed through ranks to become a Professor. His research focuses on time-resolved ultrafast laser spectroscopy to investigate chemical reactions and molecular dynamics in complex environments, including biological and energy-related systems. He is particularly interested in understanding the ultrafast dynamics of chemical reactions in solution and the impact of molecular interactions on reaction pathways. His group employs techniques such as femtosecond spectroscopy to study processes that occur on timescales of femtoseconds to picoseconds, examining solvation dynamics and excited state reactions involving nucleic acids and polymers. He has authored numerous publications in leading scientific journals that discuss various topics, including radiation chemistry and light harvesting systems, and has actively contributed to the academic community through committee service and editorial roles.
