Dr. Stephen Brown is an Associate Professor and Academic Advisor in the Department of Human Health Sciences at the University of Guelph. He began his research career during his fourth undergraduate year at the University of Windsor, where he worked with Dr. Jim Potvin and developed a keen interest in the mechanics and physiology of the lumbar spine and associated musculature. After obtaining his Master’s degree focusing on lumbar spine stability, he pursued a PhD at the University of Waterloo, specializing in lumbar spine mechanics under the mentorship of Dr. Stuart McGill. His post-doctoral work at the University of California San Diego further honed his skills in muscle physiology, employing novel measurement techniques to study sarcomere dynamics.
