Biography

Stephen Ceci is the Helen L. Carr Professor of Developmental Psychology at Cornell University. His research interests encompass a wide range of topics within the field of psychology, focusing primarily on cognition and development. Ceci's scholarly work is marked by three distinct lines of inquiry: the intersection of children and the law, specifically in areas such as suggestibility and competence to testify; the challenges faced by women in science, including issues of sex discrimination, mentoring, and stereotypes; and the factors affecting intellectual development, which encompass cross-cultural influences, schooling, cognitive sex differences, and achievement gaps. Over the years, he has been actively involved in publishing and co-editing volumes that contribute significantly to the discourse on women in science. His dedication to empirical research is evident through multiple experiments on children's testimonial competence, conducted in collaboration with his lab group. Ceci has also contributed numerous articles and chapters advancing the understanding of intellectual development.
