Biography

Stephen Choi is the Bernard Petrie Professor of Law and Business at NYU School of Law and the Director of the Pollack Center. He joined the faculty in 2005 after previously serving as the Roger J. Traynor Professor of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. Before that, he was an assistant professor at the University of Chicago Law School from 1996 to 1998. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1994, where he was a legal methods instructor and supervising editor of the Harvard Law Review, and obtained a PhD in economics from Harvard in 1997. Choi has received several honors, including the Fay Diploma, Sears Prize, and Irving Oberman Memorial Award, and has held fellowships from the John M. Olin and Jacob K. Javits programs, as well as a Fulbright fellowship. His research interests lie in the theoretical and empirical analysis of corporate law, capital markets, securities regulation, and the empirical study of judicial performance. Choi has published extensively in leading law journals and has presented his work at various conferences and symposia. He also teaches courses on securities regulation and corporate securities law, encouraging students to engage in substantial written work and presentations.
