Biography

Stephen Connelly is a Professor and Co-Director of GLOBE at the University of Warwick's School of Law. His research spans the history of legal theory, including Ancient Near Eastern cosmological accounts of law, classical Greek and Roman legal philosophy, as well as Early Modern philosophy and modern process theories of law. Stephen conducts analysis on a diverse range of topics from Sumerian lamentation to the philosophical contributions of Plato, Epicurus, and early Stoicism, through to modern thinkers such as Spinoza, Leibniz, and Bergson. In addition to his academic pursuits, he is an experienced solicitor and has worked in commercial financial regulation, litigation, and finance law. Stephen participates actively in the legislative process, having drafted bills related to sovereign debt and contributed to policy discussions on corporate governance. He encourages PhD candidates to explore research in continental legal philosophy and is open to consultations regarding legal matters in international corporate finance.
