Biography

Stephen Daniels is a lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Glasgow, where he completed his PhD on 'Human Rights Education in Scotland: Realising the Right to Education through the Incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.' His research focuses on the development of human rights education in Scotland and the realization of children and young people's rights in education. With an academic background in Philosophy, he holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Stirling and an MA from the University of Sheffield, along with an MEd in Educational Studies from the University of Glasgow. Prior to pursuing his PhD, Daniels was a trained teacher in Religious, Moral, and Philosophical Studies at the University of Strathclyde, where he taught for several years in Scottish schools. His research interests include the application of political theory to educational practices, the interplay of human rights theory in teaching, and analytic philosophy in education. He is particularly engaged in the debates around liberal responses to postcolonialism and calls to decolonize the curriculum. Additionally, he supervises doctoral candidates in topics related to human rights education, application of philosophical theories in education, and children's rights issues.
